sump question

i currently have a 10g aquarium that i turned into a fuge/sump. it's cheap, it does the trick, but it's tight on space, especially since i have about 4" of mineral mud in there, and i plan on adding more.

can i transfer the contents of that into one of those combo systems that DFS sells, or am i better off not disturbing the established mudbed and dealing with the space constraints?
