Let me start by saying, the more I learn about this hobby, the more confused I get.

I was cutting back my chaeto that had taken over my refuge and noticed that the sand was hard as a rock. Is this normal? Do i need to put a sandsifter or something in there? What about snails? Should they be in there.

Any other refuge suggestions would be appreciated.
