im new to the sump/refugium so i am curious as to what i can an and cannot use in the sump for filtration as ive started to notice the water not being like it was when i was using a canister...thinking its cause theres no carbon or mixed carbon used in it...my LFS suggested using Seachem SeaGel but in my thought wouldnt that take away from all the macro algae any advice would be wonderful

You could consider running carbon a few days a month as a sort of water polisher. I don't run carbon now (prefer a dirty tank) but if run occasionally I don't see it messing with your macros.
