Sump refugium - ingredients.

two questions.

1. are these contents good for a sump refugium

a. Ecosystem Miracle Mudd
b. Two POD condos made with plastic mesh and live rock rubble
c. Cheataue
d. LED light

2. Will this light work?

or do i need to get one of those big bowls and put a bulb in it?



I have a 40 gallon breeder as a sump - and this fits perfectly on the side since my refuge is the last section which overflows into the middle for return.

Please advise?

That should all work. But as for the light you can try it and if you start seeing a decline in the macros growth upgrade to a clamp light with a 6500k flood light with some more wattage.

You can skip the Pod condo. Pods aren't picky about any high rent district housing. The cheato and rock will work the best.

also - i have heard once you light up a refugium - algae spreads in all sections of the sump... how do you guys prevent that from happening?

I used this light for many years with great growth on my cheato. I hung it from a couple of chains under my stand.

I never really had any problems with algae growth in the sump. It seemed the cheato really out competed the rest of the algae.

apologies for being stupid - but the bulb you recommended was for the Lamp I asked about? or the one you used?

Yes the bulb should work fine. It is equivalent of a 300w standard bulb while only consuming 68watts.
