I have noticed this every now & then. I have a 3 section sump, ~85% of the overflow goes to the left section that has the skimmer, 15% goes to the right that is the fuge & the center is the return section. I notice every now & then the level of the return section varies about a half an inch or so. At the same time, the overflow level changes about 1-1.5 inches.
