Sump Room - Rebuild

Reefinny

Building my Reef
So when I started my build - it was my first build and needless to say I have learned a lot through the last 6 months. They say if it is not broke don't fix it, but there are parts of my sump room I don't like and the layout is not condensed, it takes up an entire wall - about 12' of space.

So I have decided to rebuild the room. I am moving the sump to the far wall, replacing my drain pipe from a 1.5" to a 2" changing my return from a 1" to a 1.5" (yes building with a future upgrade in mind)

So I built the back stand so far, it is 2 levels, the frag tank and fuge will be above the sump. I Hung a plywood backer board on the wall so I can hang equipment - Apex and stuff, Ran some electric and so far have 3 coats of kilz oil based on the stand. I will finish it with one more coat of exterior semi gloss so it cleans up well.

I also ran some plumbing tonight, and started building the plumping for behind the sump to run the accessories.

Tomorrow I plan on building a rack to hold my Calcium reactor, Kalk stirrer, and other equipment as well as a shelf for the QT tank and two shelves for storage.

Also plan on building a salt water mixing station as well. Once I free up some space in the room.

I hope you have a spare blowhole I'm on my 5th one in two years lol other than that looks good and makes me want to rebuild my setup

I have a. Iwaki I may use instead and keep the blow hole for the water station. Anyway build is progressing. I am a few days away from making the move! I will post up some more pics once it is up.

Same here. Went through 5 of them and gave up. Couldn't get one to last more than 4 months.

Got a lot done over the weekend. Still have some cleaning to do then I will get some pics up. The DT is a 100 gallon dsa. I have a 40 breeder fuge and a 30 frag tank hooked up to it. The sump is a 75 oceanic. One day I would like to go 240 or 300dd

noob here looking into seting up my own tank shortly. what are those things under the 10 gallon and their purpose?

Hi - as far as your equipment - it really depends on your goals - Reef - FOWLR - etc. Left to right under the QT tank - Kalk stirrer / Reactor - Calcium reactor - Bio pellet reactor. Also have a GFO reactor you can see on the side view as well as the Chiller.

IMO - I run the GFO in addition as my Phosphates were higher than I wanted and needed the extra "kick" to lower them. I am looking at changing up to the all in one pellets, and will probably do away with running GFO as well once I get them under control.

The calcium reactor is to keep my calcium stable - I keep it about 460 pretty consistently.

I was having low PH issues do to my sump room is in the boiler room and this keeps my PH stable.

Do a lot of reading ask a lot of questions, changes cost money - and I would say a majority of us on here have bought and then sold equipment as we develop our tanks and systems.

I was fortunate and able to buy them from fellow reefers local. I do know you can get them online shipping is expensive though if you have a tractor supply store near you they can order them for you and you can save some freight
