sump size for a 20 gallon half moon tank

I drilled my 20 gallon half moon tank on the back to have 2 one inch drains and a rio 1700 return pump according to the reef central calculator it will be 300 gph roughly.

Even with modifying the stand I can't quite get a ten gallon tank under it. So other than having someone build me an acrylic sump would a 5.5 gallon tank be able to handle the extra water volume when the pump kicks off.

The sump volume calculator isn't quite giving me a reliable answer since the tank is a half circle instead of a rectangle. So I'm about to do some square feet conversions and see if that will help more.

The tank is 24 long at the back and 11 wide in the middle

I have a 20 gallon with a 5.5 gallon sump. Im using a CPR overflow and small return pump which gives me around. 250gph I figure. In the sump I have a heater and corallife 65 skimmer.

I run the sump about 2/3 full and when I kill all the power it goes to about 1cm from the top.

Hope that helps

Well it is just a standard CPR overflow with a aqualifter pump to start the syphon incase of a power outage.

It has a 1.25 inch PVC tube that goes to the sump

I know in my gallon sump that the evaporation occurs so often, that I have to replace over a quart of water every day. If you forgot to replace the water for a while, your pump would burn up from running dry. If you do it, get an a.t.o.
