Should do. I think go as big as you can fit under your stand. That'll give you more options later on i.e. refugium with macro and dsb. And the extra water volume always helps. Just my .02

Of course bigger is always better, but if a 30 gallon is as big as you can go, I think it will work well.
I have a 30 gallon sump for my 75. Here is a picture of mine --- from RIGHT to LEFT, inflow/skimmer section, baffles, small fuge section, then the return section, with a shelf for a bag of carbon. I am running an external pump, the sump wasn't drilled.

Thanks a lot for your input, do you have a drawing of your sump with measurements of chambers and all?
That is the set up I was thinking.

No drawings, but....
The first chamber (( on the right )) is 12"
Baffles take up a total of 4.5"
fuge is 12"
return section is 7"
First baffle is about 13" high
Middle baffle 12" high (( but about 14" from the bottom of the sump, used an over, under, over design ))
Last one is about 11.5"
The one piece b/t the fuge and return is about 10.5, with slots cut into in,

Thanks for the measurements, what kind of skimmer are using?
I have a little giant pump, 1/2", 750 GPH, 1/12 HP, 115V, is this plenty for a filtration system for my tank?

I am using an ASM 1GX for my skimmer -- no mods. Have had it for 5+ years now.
My pump is a Velocity T2, rated for 650 GPH, and I have a throttled back. Think your pump would be fine, but I wouldn't go any higher.
If you don't overstock your tank, have a good amount of live rock, you should be good for filtration.

Regarding the middle baffle you said, is a total of 14 inches from the bottom, that means you left a 2" of space from bottom of the tank to bottom of the baffle?
Is that enough to have a good flow with the pump I have? Is there any rule of thumb to measure the space of the middle baffle?
