Hello, looking for a few recommendations around sumps and return pumps for a 225g tank. My history has been primarily with planted freshwater so this is very new to me, finally took the plunge and am going saltwater since I moved to place with lots of space for a rather large tank.
At my local fish store they were recommending a Aqua Excel 10000 DC pump (believe they said it was 2600gph) and for a sump an Eshopps r-300. The prices they offer are the same as online which is nice, 249 for the pump and 349 for the sump.
The question is does anyone have any experience with this sump or recommend something else? They also have a Trigger systems 39 inch sump for about $200 more - is it worth the extra costs?
I plan on getting a skimmer, still looking into what types/models and sizes, and love to tinker with automation so want plenty of room to add other pumps and equipment within the sump itself. Tank will be focused around reefs (beginner ones for now) with smaller/easier fish and shrimp.
Would start with 60lbs of sand (store recommended amount) and 100lbs of live rock. Will likely double the rock over time but 100lbs were free with the tank purchase (^_^).
