Sump vs Trickle filtration

I am wanting to buy a 75g reef ready tank and the book I am reading suggest either of these two is that correct?

A wet/dry filter will become nitrate factories because of bioballs. I suggest the sump because you can customize into your liking.

yes and a sump designed to your specs can house a good skimmer. A lot of trickle filters or wet/dry filters don't have enough space to be able to fit any extra equipment in.

What has already been said is absolutely true. I started a FOWLR tank and used basically a bioball filtration system that worked great for the first 6 months or so. But then, since I wasn't good about getting in there and cleaning them out, my nitrates skyrocketed and I scrapped that part and went with a straight sump.
