my last 2 setups have had a refugium in the sump

on my 300g where I had a lot of flow through the sump the refugium had a seperate feed

on my 110 g the refugium is in line so all flow goes through it. I did add a custom weir on the out flow of the refugium to allow for a sand bed and full cross flow through the refugium and it's workign out great

the custom weir is made up of the first 4" of glass to hold a sand bed and the rest made with egg crate

A refugium should be more than 10 % of your DT volume to begin to be effective.

My questions to you, what do you want out of your refugium? Why do you feel you need a refugium?

RocketSurgeon I don't know if I need one or not . I"m building a 30x30x24 cube and I'm trying to decide what direction I wan't to go in.

I did a refigum, best thing i could have ever done for my display, besides serving as a place to hide equipment, i eliminated my P.I.T.A. canister filters. Ive got so much life in there now (cool to watch on its own) its easy to maintain, essentualy takes care of it self. Its nice to have even a little extra water volume.
