Short history is I bought 120g with existing fish 3 months ago and live rock. Pests and bacteria existing in old tank was unknown. I added fish and anemones and didnt lose anything.
Decided to move all to new 200g because sump on 120g required a lot of maintenance and due to cabinet space I would have had to take drastic measures to fix the sump issue because a new sump would not fit through doors. Also tank was on older side but was well established. I used new live sand, existing live rock, media filter and 200+g of new coral pro when moving to new tank a couple weeks ago.
I had noticed a few times of a few ich spots which appeared and disappeared in old setup but nothing severe. I have a 30g qt/hospital tank but I have broken it down and use it without sand and not cycled.
I've read the only way to know ich etc is gone is by making DT fallow. I saw it again in new tank and lost fish this time and know its likely to come back again. I have coral, lr, inverts, anemones in DT and lost only fish. I dont want to use the 30g I have for such a long time. Its got a hangon filter...airstone and doesnt fit my shelves..so it sits on floor or in cabinet ...not optimal for 2+months.
I've got a couple of built-in shelves about 24.5" length and 19" width...plenty of height above.
I'm wondering which setup you'd use to put a saltwater tank on the built-in (sumpless) to cycle and then move fish to for a few months. I'd like to keep it running for times I need to separate fish if needed. I'd like to be able to medicate the tank as needed without being worried about coral inverts etc.
I am leaning toward the c-max 130 because it has built-in skimmer and will fit the shelf hanging off front an inch. I also like the top with lights but lights are not led. I'd like the tank without hanging filters etc. I have a sailfin tang which complicates things because im worried about putting the sailfin in a 30g as it is so smaller is not an option. It has a cabinet I don't need so overpriced for what I need and trying to see if any other better options. I plan in it being a fish only tank.
