Sumps, Pods, and Reappearing Mushrooms

I'm sure Adam and Kyle are sick of my silly questions so I thought I'd get some opinions from the masses- before I go in tomorrow and bother them. My tank is finally stabilized after a catastrophic failure 2 months ago. Macro is growing like never before, didn't realize the amount of pods creeping around my sump/ fuge. New lights in the DT make a huge difference, and everything is growing way better than ever- comparitively speaking.
I could never get my nitrates below 10 (which was acceptable since I didn't notice any ill effects). Yesterday I decided to remove my filter sock since I only have 2, don't have a washing machine and I'm generally lazy. After learning how often a sock should be changed, I now realize that this might have been the cause of my nitrates. I have a medium bio load, run carbon and phosban 24/7, skim 24/7, fuge lights 24/7, hob filter with no media just for water movement, dose kalk and vinegar, and grow cheato, lettuce and chaulpera.
1) I know it's only been one day, but my skimmer has calmed down quite a bit- much less foam than yesterday. Is this normal? I kinda expected the exact opposite now that food and waste are being released right into my sump. I do keep some damsels and critters down there so I figured the extra coming from the DT would be used, but skimming has dramatically reduced.
2) Also, I see tons of pods in my sump, none in my DT. They're probably there, but certainly not visible. I don't have any livestock that eats pods only, so should I wait to introduce a bunch into my DT? I'm also a little scared since I've heard pods can aggitate zoa's and other corals.
3) And totally unrelated- I had a free floating red mushroom (2 heads that didn't want to stay attached to the frag disk they came on). I thought they were goners, but low and behold they both resurfaced and attached to some lr. Problem is one decided to squat down right next to a frag of ricordea. Will one sting or outcompete the other? Or can they live peacefully side by side, and I mean touching so with any growth they would overlap.

Thanks to everyone ahead of time and for the many previous times, and Adam and Kyle, at least you know what your in for tomorrow (my day off).

Seth,
It's weird that your skimmer slowed down, I wouldn't worry about your pods and the mushroom may sting the ricordea.

All what I figured. Thought my skimmer would take off. It is doing more than yesterday, but not as much as when I had the sock on. Oh well, everything else is normal so I'm not worried.
Any suggestion a to how to get 1 mushroom head off of a rock? It likes to retract and hide itself. Baster didn't work since he attached rather quickly.
