Well you have to know how or what a sump is to do before you can draw one. I am still trying to get this so I can get my new sump for my new tank so I will have a place to put frags if we ever have a frag swap. New people don't konw how to do or what to do for sumps. I do know I want one, just don't know how to plum it or anything else. HELP!

I'm with Del on this one. I even bought a tank from Andy to make into a sump and I have researched for weeks but I am no closer to an understanding of just how to do it . It will be for my new 90 gallon tank once I have it all going.
You guys could actually take this tank and build a sump out of it at the meeting if you wanted to ...hey just an idea...
I will sure be at this meeting making notes so I can move forward with another piece of the 90 gallon ...then all I need is plumbing and my halides and I will be ready to get it wet.

Sumps dont have to be complicated. If you really have no idea what you are going to be doing with it/ using it for, you can just use an old aquarium (or new one, I guess) for now, or even a rubbermaid bin. (unless your sump has to go in before the main tank is installed, then you will have to decice on the front end)

yep mine has to go in first. So this will be a very informative meeting for me . Andy suggested no baffles just an open sump design. I kinda like the idea of a refugium area and that is what I am researching..pros and cons of the different concepts along with design. Trouble is I am more of a hands on person and some of the drawings and pictures just muddle my brain. I have nightmares that I get this all set up with MY own do it yourself design and I have 90 plus gallons of water in my floor before before I can come out of shock and shut it down....my husband is NOT any help since he is no do it yourself person at all . I barely have him trained on the 29 gallon enough to leave him in charge and go out of town for a few days.

That should provide good reading to create food for thought. Browse through Marc's "Various Sumps" list on the left for individual pages with pictures and text of most. It'll give you a good idea of what you do and don't like. Where you'd improve and what you don't need.

Have fun and HTH,
Will
