Sun Coral Has yet to open

Newschool I hate to say this but that one does not look very good which would explain why it is not eating the way it normally would. The coral is recessed into the tubes which is a sign of long term starvation and then the coral will not eat because it does not have the energy to do so. I would say if you keep up with the Tupperware trick and it recovers then it will become much easier to feed. Just my 2 cents but this coral is not easy to nurse back to health but once it is healthy it is fairly easy.

Here it is last night after I took it out of the container and placed it in the sump. Looks promising.

I got my sun coral from Jim at Coral Paradise. This is what he suggested and I found it effective.

I feed at the same time daily. Whatever I was feeding the tank, mysis, brine shrimp, Red's, Rod's I used a kids medicine dropper and slowly, put some food in front of it so that it would blow over the coral. I did this 3 or 4 times at around 10 minute intervals. Then I would feed the tank like normal. After a week or so it started opening up by itself, around feeding time. Ever since, I don't have to feed them special. Now, they just open at feeding time and eat with everyone else.

Worked like a charm for me.

Have you tried putting the coral into a container and then feeding just in the container? I did it again last night and all the polyps were out within 5 minutes. After that I just used a baster to swirl the food in the container every 15 minutes or so. I'm still keeping the coral in the sump so it's very easy to set up the whole operation.

I'm going to do this for a week or so and then move the coral from the sump back into the main tank.
