I noticed that when I added stronium and Iodine the sun coral open when the additives were added and I had the lights on so my theory is that sun corals have a stronium and iodine as well as calcicum.
could also be that the coral is responding to something "new" in the water, which it may think is food. its hard to determine why its reacting the way it is, though someday your observation may prove correct.
i've been struggling with a donated sun coral. i finally had some success feeding it with the two liter bottle method. I had to move it to the center of my nano. hopefully i don't get any algae growing on it. I did notice he spots appearing over the last couple of days. Any ideas on what it is?
The spots could be algae growing on exposed skeleton or an infection of some sort. It looks terribly underfed. Once the polyps become shrunken in and it begins to starve they can be tough to get back into shape. How often are feeding it and what are you feeding it? It is going to take alot of TLC to turn it around.
It came in bad shape. i think the spots are due to it getting stung by a torch that fell on it. I'm now rehabbing it the best I can I'm feeding it mysis every other day using the 2-liter bottle method. Seems to be working pretty good.
