sun coral question?

I just got a new sun coral and it is beautiful, but i have a few questions. is each polyp its own organism or are they each linked together? What I need to know is, does each mouth need to be fed , or do they share the nutrients? I have been trying to feed each one but sometimes they don't all get fed but I try to feed it in the morning and night each day so they all get fed. I just need a couple pointers. Thanks for all who help.

I dont know if there all linked together, but i do know every polyp needs to be feed which might indicate that there all there own organism

I don't believe this to be 100% true. I've seen yellow sun polyps sharing bodys. I have one right now thats bound to a 2nd polyp, the smaller one seems to be affected as his polyps come out while the big ones feeding.

As I recall... and please don't quote me on this one...

Sun Corals are not really one animal, but kinda are too. They each need feeding, but apparently, if one is not being fed, it can sustain itself (but will not thrive) from a group pool of stored chemical energy that is stored in the skeleton.

Again, please don't quote me on this, I'm half-remembering something I read months ago when I was first researching these corals.

TO get them feeding well I have removed them from the aquarium and placed them in a bowl with Aquarium water and a lot of food. They are pigs.

Do they form there own skelotons and grow on them or do they need rocks to spread onto,

Right now im keeping it on the sand but ima reaquascape some and then try to put it on the rocks

i have mine trained to come out at the same time everyday +- 15minutes. i keep mine on the sand bed and i use a cut up 1litter over top of the colony and use a turkey baster and squirt the food in. works great this way no current so all the food just falls right on the expanded polyps. then i wait about 30 minutes for them to get done feeding and take the bottle off and the current picks up any remaining food and blows it back in the water column for the fish. i do this 3 times a week an mine have been doing awsome have had them over a year with babys popping up all the time.

i just have mine on the sand and i feed it nightly with brine shrimp or rotifiers whatever i grab out of the fridge, but ive noticed it has grown significantly

When i got it it had some little babies on the sides about the size of zoas and after 2 weeks of feeding daily they have grown to about half the size of the adult ones
