sun coral question?

light doesn't seem to be a factor with my suns.....they open when there is food in the column....I add phyto and poof...they open right up....I do keep them in a low spot under a small ledge....but either way,it seems food is the stimulus that makes them open.

i have mine under a ledge and notice that they only open when the tank light is off and the room is pitch black. maybe mine are just weird. lol.....

You can train them to come out with the lights. Start feeding them cyclopeez when the lights go on and they will learn to come out. Hope this helps. Al

If you like the look of the sun corals but hate that they're always closed (thats the downside to them) there is an alternative which is called a dendro... They're a bit more pricey but they're open all day and all night and they're just stunning. One thing though, like the sun corals, they do need to be fed multiple times weekly to survive as they are not photosynthetic. If your interested in a frag pm me.
