Sun coral slipping away

My sun coral is slowly going and i cant figure out why, they get fed once daily Mices shirmp and once every other day photoplankton. I have had them for 2 months now

Make sure your nitrates are low, I had the same problem. My nitrates were a lil high and keep good flow.

Low light, good soft flow, try change the brand of Mysis shrimp and ensure, that this colony has 2 cubes each feeding time, or try Ocean Plankton or Pacific Plankton, same quantity.

If alkalinity is above 8dKH (not by strips multiple test or Nitrafin), and phosphates below 0.25 ppm, try more water changes - could be accumulation of something undetectable in the water - I had this once, but the fish reacted, not the sun coral. Could be a small quarantine tank - to use less water.

I'm going thru the same thing. I started to do more water changes and switched the food. I lost one whole colony but they had 4 babies (from what I could see) the black suncoral is getting its color back. I started to feed them everyday and left the light on the tank for only 3 hrs a day...maybe less stress would help it repair faster. Any of your other corals having problems or just the suncoral?

Most of my corals are doings great every thing seems to be propagating nicely,i have one sickly open brain that got stung by a majano other then that every thing is thriving. I do a 25% water change just before a months time, usually every 25 days. I also test for calcium and alkalinity every other day, my calcium is at 400ppm and the alkalinity is at 3.2DKH.

I had the same thing happening w/a bunch of dendro's. I think the problem is/was that my nitrates were high as well as my phosphates. I fed often & only had them in a 24 JBJ. I ended up putting them in another tank for the time being & so far they look like they are going to recover. This just happened a week ago so only time will tell.

Could it have something to do with the flame scallop in first pic??? Have heard they are hard to keep. How does everyone else feed their sun polyp? Mine is still small (half a baseball) so I take it out in a small tub of water and feed it isolated with a snug fit soda bottle holding the food close as possible. I feed mine Phytoplex and occasionally some brine mixed with a little high quality flake. Have had it about 2 months and its growing like crazy. HTH

I read articles about taking them out alot, that it isnt good. I also read a good article on nitrates http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issu...t2003/chem.htm

I started to rinse the frozen food off and also do 30% water changes ever week now. I feed mine in the tank. I have 9 suncorals and a bunch of zoas in my tank. I also added some blue leg hermits and nassa. snails to help eat the left over food.
Also check your phosphates
