i picked this up last week and half ago from my LFS and have read up on feeding and stuff, it will only do little yellow rings with bout 1mm should i be more paitent??? does it look ok?

Have you tried turning the lights out and getting food near it? That always gets my LPS to put feeders out. Dunno about those ones though, I've never had one.

Yea my sun coral is under a cave and about 10 mins before lights go out it starts to come out and once the lights are off, the polyps will open for feeding. U have to target feed these too.

show us ya photos!!?

I did a search on here and found alot of info...
Also, today I went to our local club meeting and won Entice b Seachem and thought what the heack... I know risky,,,, I put some in the tank and then feed and my fish went nuts but so did all my suns! They all opened up wider than they have before and ate like crazy! I target feed them normally and sometimes take them out of the tank to feed. Best if you keep them in the tank.... Now that I know how that they react to Entice I will be using that reguraly!

Good luck and do a search.....

Deb

does it stay open all the time ...............did it happen overnight or did you encourage it to happen?

No, it doesn't stay open all the time - usually opens about an hour before feeding and still has about half the polyps half open now (about 6 hours later). That pic tonite is the most I've seen it open since purchase

that is cool!

hope mine is as good looking!

did it do mini rings of yellow for days before fully opening up?

have you used any funky invert (filter) juice?

do you feed same time every day?

Yes we've seen mini rings and still do at times. No funky feeding here - unless you consider cyclopeez funky. I actually feed 2x/day - flake in the morning and then frozen mixture which could include any of the following: mysis, krill, brine, and homemade mixture of raw shrimp, scallop, talapia, garlic, and I think that's all that is in this batch, and then cyclopeez about 3x/week.

If you feed it the same time every day, it should get "trained" to open. I have always had success getting mine to open by just dropping a few drops of zoecon in the tank. About 5 minutes later, it is open enough to feed.

I would feed every day for a while then step back to every other or every 3rd day. I also use a homemade mix much like Reet15's and would highly recommend making a meaty mix tofeed it.

Took this photo the first day I got it. I've been feeding it everyday around 3pm for the last three weeks I've had it. Since then, more polyps have sprouted and the skin interlapping between the polyps has thickened and spread.

My Orange hasn't opened up in about a week ( from what I've seen) as soon as my lights go off...BLAM!! the black and yellow suncoral opens up. I paid $42 for my yellow which has over 50+ polyps, My black has about 60+ polyps for $42 and orange has 20+ and paid $40. Still looking for RED!!

I paid $45 for that guy which I wasn't complaining too much about. That rock has three separate colonies on it and wasn't doing superbly well but I thought it was beautiful. It opened up like that the second I got it home.

Pleco, I've had mine for about a month now and with regular feedings, it's been growing and doing well. I fed it every night about 2-3 cubes of Mysis over the period of an hour for roughly about two weeks and it really perked up. From what I've read, usually by the time that sun corals get to your home, they are practically on the verge of being starved to death due to how much you need to feed them.

Now I feed about every two days with the same amount of Mysis. Generally, I feed one cube and about 15 minutes later they have digested their food and are still looking hungry.

People may say that they are difficult to keep due to their feeding requirements, but it's not that bad considering you have to feed your fish at some point as well.
