Sun Coral

I have been researching sun coral and it says they are hard to keep i know they need to get food to every polyp but other than that i dont see why they are hard to keep?

Because you really need to get every polyp to eat a couple of times a week. I feed a couple of times a week mysis and flake and even though it wasnt in great shape before because the store didnt know how to take care of it, I am still seeing a little bit of recession.

Not hard to keep if kept properly. Seems like you've done a bit of research, they are not photosynthetic, and require frequent almost nightly feedings to survive. It is best if every polyp recieves food but not necessary of fed enough. Each polyp can only take in and process so much food at once probably not much more than the polyp itself needs to be healthy, but feeding a majority of polyps will sustain unfed polyps. Problem is in maintaining good water quality with all the feeding, and keeping up with the feeding schedule after a long period of doing it it can become a bit of a chore that many people just dont keep up with.

I feed mine twice a week and I know that not all the polyps get food. I guess I am lucky the thing is growing like crazy. They are starting to open up when the lights are on, not fully. So it is true you have to feed every polyp?

ive just started a reef tank. and ive done alot of research on the sun coral. do you think i could buy one. i have good water quality. never had spikes or anything
