sun light affect water

Hello all ,
I thought I had put my Mantis tank in a spot were there is no sun light, but I have not been well of late so I am at home a lot and enjoying my Mantis Bam Bam, the water lately seems to get high in salt and the nitrates seem to go up, I have notice that that sun light comes in the window at about 930 it shines right in the tank. There is nothing else new in the tank I have been trying to get the water lavels right but it seem to change every three days.
I have no idea why if it is not the sun what could it be and if it is the sun then I will have to move my tank what is the best way to do this

Ok, let me ask a few basic questions to get a mental picture of your tank...
How long have you been keeping saltwater aquariums?
How long has this one been running?
When you do evaporation topoffs do you use fresh water or salt water?
What kind of filtration do you have?
What other life forms are in the tank?
What are you feeding?
Do you remove any uneaten food or do you leave it in the tank?
what are the other perameters of your tank?

Salinity
Ammonia
Nitrite
Temp.

Your answers will give us some idea as to what you can do to fix your problem.

Hi Dave
1] athis is my frist one
2] 3 month's
3] that depenson how hight my salinity is ,if it is high I use treated fresh water, if it is fine I use salt water.

4] my filter hangs on the side and it filters 500lt per hour and a power head it is a 60lt tank 2ft

5] soft coarls about 6 small ones, snales about 2 small and 2 turbo snales { they are all fine and growing }

6] he does not eat alot so I give him small fresh pices of shrimp or bass yabbies {live ones} once a week if I try to feed him
2 times a week he will not eat the second feed ,
I only leave it in for 24hours and if he has not touched it I take it out ,I remove all uneat food even the shells of the yebbies. he do not even touch the snales yeet he is oonly about 8 cm long he is a peacock mantis
I do test of all the salinity, nitrite,ph'there is a temp gage in the tank all the time it reads 26 it does not change.

thank you

welp then it sounds like your doing everything right. The sun isnt going to affect your nitrates, at least not to my knowledge. the only thing the sun will do is affect the temp of the tank and cause an algae bloom... My geuss is your nitrates are just a byproduct of the mantis's waste. what is your nitarte reading when you test the water?

Hi Dave
Thank You for your help my Nitrates Have a colour chart and they read in the middle of the chart whiich is were it sohuld be by what the instructions say, so could this be happening because he mite be coming up to a molt stage?
Thank You

Im not familiar with that test kit. All of the ones I have used have a color chart and you want to be at the top of the chart, where the color is the lightest, typically yellow. The mantis getting ready to molt wouldnt cause a nitrate spike. But if your chart says thats where you should be, I wouldnt worry. 40 ppm is a tolerable level of nitrates, I dont like getting much higher than that though. Hope that helps!

OK
Thank You Dave for all your help,
I think he is in a molt stage right now as he has been digging alot in the past 2 days, and now he is in hidding I have not seen him for 48 hours so I think he is mloting . if I can load a few pics on here I will put some with my test kits and my tank and
Bam Bam on here so you can see what I have I will let you know when I have done it .
