sun pollups

so mine that I had gotten for free are having babies up the ying yang. at eddies they had a some for 50 dollars. I was wondering how I caould frag mine. also my frogspawn has about 15 heads now. I would also like some tips on fragging these guys

Amy, wait until others chime in but this is my thinking...

The frogspawn should retract when taking it out of the water. It will produce slimy mucous that will cover the flesh that will help retain the moisture while out of the water. The inside of frogspawns look like a hollow skeleton structure. As long as its at least an inch or two from the "flesh" you should have a healthy corals. Also, try to break them cleanly. You can score it with an xacto knife and snap it. A dremel works really well with this kind of fragging.

I'm not sure on the sun polyps...I would think I would use my tile/wet saw for it to be able to cut though/deeply scoring the rock. If you don't have one maybe score it all the way around and then use a chisel and hammer? I wonder what the correct way of doing this is..lol

are they just growing aditional polyps or are they releasing juvenail larvea that settle as a polyp in a different area? sun polyps do spread in the colony ( expansion really) with additional polyps but also send out seed/larvea corals .....that start as a single polyp that turns into a colony far or away from mother colony. which are you experiencing?.

they will spread by location of old polyps. in your case they are just spreading out. try placing rocks near them and they may spread off. there are different species and some grow/spread faster. most likly i would just be happy that they open up. dont think aquaculture so fast. they are an advanced coral for care if you are wondering how i mentioned it above. now just take care of them andif they spread/breed out so be it.

From what I know of them, "fragging" them is difficult because they do not share nutrients between polyps.

Not sure. As Dave said, this is one of the more tempermental corals out there. I would let it be for a while.
