Today I went swimming and got sunburn....bad sunburn. Is there any home remedies to get rid of the burning?

Aloe, which you can buy if you don't have a plant in your back yard. Take up 800mg Iboprofin (Motrin) 3 times a day, this will really help the most to block pain and prevent inflammation. Other than that, anything over the counter topical that makes you feel cool feels good.

I thought you were going to say that you were leaning over your tank and got burnt by your bulbs. It can happen pretty quick if your neck is real close to them. I've had it happen in 15 minutes.

Ahh thank you so much. I would never think you could sunburn by your lights...learn something new everyday.

Definitely aloe and some pain killers. If you don't have an aloe plant, get aloe with lidocaine in it...it'll help the pain.

aloe, and if you blister, put aquaphor on after

aloe will will help with the burning by giving you a cooling effect, aquafor will help the blisters stay lubricated which will prevent cracking and minimize water loss while soothing and softening

that was from my wife who knows much more than I do :)

I have always used cold washcloths on the burned area for the first day/night. the next day I would put aloe on it. I never did any aloe or anything on the first day because I wanted to get as much heat out of my skin as possible.

aloe, aloe, aloe, aloe, followed by some aloe, and then a beer. And then some aloe. Banana Boat gel or something similar. Good luck and feel better!

Lol thanks, Im getting aloe soon...unfortunately im too young for a beer(bummer).

Butter milk, yogurt or sour cream. Old school remedies in case you want alternative option although I would go for aloe myself.

That might feel good but your skin isn't burnt from the heat, it's burnt from the radiation. You probably already knew that though. The evaporative effects of the cool water will make you feel better but Aloe will last longer and can give you that cool feeling for about 15 minutes at a time. I'm not sure water will last that long, but as long as you have the washcloth and cool water you can keep soaking yourself. Aloe is also very good for healing your skin and that's another reason to use it. Heck you can even use ice if the pain is so bad that you want to numb it. Just ice for 15-20 minutes at a time, no longer or you can damage your tissues. Just remember the sensations you'll feel when icing are Cold Burning Aching Itching and finally Numbness, so you'll go through burning and pain before you get to numb. It's probably better to ice more localized burns, but once my girlfriend fell asleep in Mexico and her friends didn't want to wake her up. We had to put her in ice baths as she had 2nd and 3rd degree burns. To this day she still has scars and that was only a 2 hour nap.
