SunBurst Anthias.

I just bought a Sunburst Anthias today, that the store had for 3 weeks and it eats frozen Mysis. After acclimating it for 3.5 hours I finally put it in the tank and all it did was swim to the back of the tank behind the rocks and lay on its side. Is this normal? I read that they can swim on their sides and upsidedown and what not, but I'm worried, because it just lays there for about 10 minutes now.

I just picked one up a few days ago. He has never layed on his side however he did hang out in a cave most of the day for the first few days I had him. Now he stays near the cave and does not swim more then 2 feet from the cave. He eats mysis, but loves cyclo much more. I would have to agree that I would be worried if he is laying on his side. Mine is in a 180 sps reef. What are the details on your tank, size, water, lights, etc.

29 gal Sps reef very good water conditions 250 Se Halide, and 2 seio 820's for flow.

They do not appear to like the bright light, from what I have seen. I attempted them in the past and have 3 more now. They are also not at all aggressive towards anything but each other for the most part so something can easily chase them into hiding. On their side or tight against the rockwork is not uncommon. What helps is to have some good community fish with them that stay in the open approach the glass when you feed.

I am keeping them this time also in a lower temperature tank, mainly due to less lighting. I have had these 3 for about 3 months. They will eat any frozen meat food.

Thanks all for the help, but it appears to have died lastnight around 9:00pm. I came in to check on it and the mouth was stuck wide open and its gills appeared to have stopped moving. I still have it in a Qt to see if it is still alive, but I highly doubt it.

Sorry about the two threads, I was getting real desperate and figured someone on the reef discussion board might have some ideas.

I don't understand why someone would give you a hard time over posting 2 threads, you were worried, I would have done the same thing, and I have before.
