Thanks. The shadows are an interesting part for me also.
It was about 9am. Sun was just peeking into my backyard, and was filtered through trees before hitting the face of the sunflower just right to create the shadows. For me the petals almost have a soft fabric look which I enjoy. And I like how the immature, unopened seeds form a tight spiral into the center of the flower head.
The brightness of the exposure in the upper left of the flower bothers me a tad, but reducing it didn't do happy things to the goodness going on from say 1 - 8 o'clock relative to the flower center. And the sun was getting brighter by the minute, so it's an accurate reflection of the situation.
The variety of sunflowers available these days is pretty terrific, though I'm not a fan of the artificially dyed ones. Best wishes for enjoyable shooting and good luck with your love shot!
