Sunlit Mangrove Tank?

I've always been fascinated by mangrove tanks, but canopies, low hanging lights, and tank depth have always stopped me. I'd love to set up a relatively low cost 12g shallow rimless (Mr. Aqua, 35.4"x8.3"x9.3" tall). Could I get away with just positioning this tank right in front of my window, or would additional lighting be necessary? Assorted macro algae and maybe a pair of banggai cardinals or something would be the other inhabitants. Thanks guys :fish1:

This tank is in a south facing window with in direct sunlight. There are two led bulbs on for 8 hours at night, which presumably contributes to the majority of the growth. This is about 7 months of grow from propagules. If you can place them in direct sunlight, I would think they would grow fine.
