Well my 32 watt bulb that is retro fitted in my nc12 burnt out maybe 3 weeks ago. I ordered a replacement bulb from Dr. Foster and Smith but when it came and I shook the bulb and i could head something loose in it. Pluged it in and the bulb didnt work. Now I'm on my 3rd bulb from them and all 3 bulbs have not worked. I'm sure that you shouldnt be able to hear anything when you shake the bulb but correct me if I'm wrong. All the bulbs were shipped well so now im thinking maybe my ballast is broken.
Well my question is does anyone around oc have a 32 watt ballast I could test my 3 bulbs on? Im just trying to figure out if its my bulbs or my ballast thats broken. If it is my ballast i will gladly give you one of the bulbs if they are found to be working.

Thanks
John

I just picked up some 96W bulbs from my LFS and they too sounded like something was shaking around in the bulb. Both bulbs work great so who knows. Bring the ballast with you when you pick up the bulb to test. Might be the ballast :(

there is something supposed to be shaking around in there. its a small bead of i think i was told murcury. i had called hellolights.com about this since i heard it in one of my bulbs and they said it was completely normal and should be expected. hth

Gosh I would feel like such an @ss if I find out it was my ballast that went out and not the bulb(s). Still trying to find a place to test the bulbs and now ballast.

Im in Fillmore (Ventura County) and no square pin ballasts to be had :( Good job posting on NanoReef tho.. someone's bound to have a nano compatible with that bulb!
