Super Encrusting A. Nana (?)

This is supposed to be Acropora Nana. What is branched out is really the original frag. You can see how much it's encrusted (roughly 3" diameter) with no further branching.

Any ideas on how I can encourage some "outward" growth?

whoa.. one of these days it's going to decide to grow upward and you're going to have a good size colony pretty quick..

It just happens a lot of my Sps encrusted for the first 6 months then branches started coming for everywhere. They're building support for the heavy branches! My valida covered an entire rock before it one branch.

Still encrusting!

No sign of any new outward growth (except the original frag)

It's either an A. nana or A. valida. In my experience, once they color up like that, especially with that base, you are in for some calcium depleting action.

It's not quite as colorful as the photo makes it appear. For the most part, it's a fairly pale pink, with blue and purple at the one long tip and at the new-growth areas around the edges.

I've been wondering if it might need more (or less) light. Any suggestions?
