Will just any plain old super glue work?- or is there a special type?

And how long should you keep the zoa out of the water once you are done glueing the coral?

I know this subject probably has been already discussed, so sorry!!!!

I use super glue gel, loctite brand. After gluing, I dip in a bowl of tank water and then place back in tank.

Do you ever find the zoa looks really bad afterwards?

I've fragged and glued two zoa's before (just free floating zoa's that weren't attached to rock) but I just used ordinary super glue and once I noticed the zoa lost some of its color and took a few days to recover.

Also I noticed that a few days later it was covered in red slime (looked like cyno) and I just figured it was from the glue- is this tue?

not the glue causing the death unless you get it on their mouth sometimes.

buy IC gel. its every bit as good as loctite and at a fraction of the cost. a 20 gram tube will run $5 or so
