Mine bleached out for a bit with the 14K addition and the center polyps retracted.

Now that I put the 10K back, the center polyps seem to be starting to peek out again.

I shelled out $40 for my 1/2" frag. But I did get the purple jacquilinanae for $20, so it evened out.

that looks photoshopped to me
I dare you to post a pic using a flash;)

Not my pic. It is the mother colony. It is definately purple, maybe not quite to that extent but certainly pretty. The frag is too small for my crappy camera.

Ron I will be honest with you and say that they are not the best looking coral for the amount you pay for them. I thought that they had a deeper blue then what they truly have.

Hey I can tell you guys one thing, they like a LOT of light to get that deep blue. I got a frag from a west coast guy last winter and it was BLUE BLUE.
It was a beauty. It stayed that way for me but I ended up losing it in a tank move this spring.

I just got a new frag of it a few weeks ago from Atlantis Aquarium and like yours it needs to color up. I admitt, I have been a little slow about moving it up but its getting there and so is the blue. Polyps are still Orange, With more light they should go Red. I've got about 3" more height to raise it up then we'll see. I'll let you know... :)

Heres my old frag. I hope the new one ends up like this. :)

I've killed for less.
:eek2: Did I mention I lost that frag???

:D

Ron,
I can let you know the next time I order from someone who has it if you like.
I'm probably going to do another order from Atlantis in a month or two if you wanna piggyback. :)

he can reach through his computer to "get you"

BTW, the pics look great, but I can't help think "photoshopped" especially when I see a border. Was it really that bright?

None Taken. :)
I Photoshop everything. Photoshop Elements 4.0 actually. $50 on Ebay. :)

Color correction since that was under a 14k bulb and my camera white balance only goes to like 10k. Border also. When needed I also sharpen the image. If your not using Photoshop to some degree, your really missing out on quality images. Not many point and shoot images under aquarium lighting are true to life.

But Ben, I can promise you one thing, it was really that "bright" blue. :)
If you notice, right in the center of the frag there was a white spot, its still white in my image. If there were any funny business with the pic, everything would be blue. Including the rock. ;)

Jen you don't have to apologize for me. I wasn't trying to be rude. I just think the pic looks great and wanted to know if it looked like that in person.

My wife is researching which photo editor to buy right now, $50 for photoshop elements isn't bad. THX

Treg, where in Ohio are you? Have you considered heading to Findlay for the meeting?

Treg - what wattage and brand of lights are you running?

I'd love to get a copy of photoshop also. I'll have to check out the e-bay auction.

Ben,

Im in Marion, or Just outside of Actually. I'm about 3 minutes from US 23 between Rt 309 and Rt 95. I should come up to a meeting sometime and meet you guys. I know a couple people already and I see a lot of you guys posting in different forums. :)

I like this PS Elements 4.0 and you cant beat that price! Unless you "borrow" someones copy.
A little color correction and sharpening, removing the debris floating in the water colum and a border is about all I usually do, I think it really improves an image, JMO.

Right now I'm using the Ushio 250w 14k DE's. I went with the Ushio for (hopefully) improved growth. Basically I'm just starting over with a bunch of frags right now. I need some Growth!

In the past (Like the Superman Pic) I was using the AquaConnect 14k.
The AQ had a more pleasing blue look but I just always felt I had slow growth with that bulb. It also seemed to wash out the overall tank look, not much detail.

The difference between those two 14ks is night and day. The AQ looks like a 20k and the Ushio looks like a 10k.
I'm going to stick with the Ushio 14k for awile. I also supplement with 2 T5 Blue+ bulbs so the color is nice, crisp and white.
