Superman Monti Polyps Turned Green?

Both my Superman Monti colonies polyps have turned green. I got two frags of this monti over a year ago and for 8-9 months both were growing very well and the polyps were very red. Now in the last couple months both colonies polyps have turned green, not one red polyp. All other montis, acros etc colors are perfect.

Anyone have any ideas why? Anyone experience the superman monti polyps turning green?

Both colonies are still growing.

IME, a lot of the wild montis that come in like that can change depending on the tank. I've seen rainbows, supermans, and pokerstars all change to be one another depending on tank conditions and lighting.

Yeah its weird. They dont look like the rainbow Monti's I have seen. They just look like a superman with plain green polyps. Even the new growth polyps are just plain green.

I gave a frag to a friend of mine back before the polyps changed colors and his is still nice red polyps which makes me think it is something with my tank.

Could it be a deficiency of some sort? Iodine? Potassium? etc?

I must admit I haven't done a water change in quite some time and I dont add anthing but alk, cal, and mag.

BTW my two colonies came from different people which leads me to believe it is a water chemistry problem with my tank.

imo the rainbow and the superman are the same coral, place the superman lower and it will stay that way/red and blue, put it higher and it will go rainbow. The process of the switch is prob. what your seeing. it's a way cool coral.

hmm, i've had the opposite experience. superman is up high and the rainbow down low.

Placement isnt the issue with mine I dont think. I got both about the same time and I placed one at the very bottom of my 27" deep tank and the other in the top half of the tank. The one that I put at the bottom has had much more growth then the one towards the top but both now have green polyps and both started turning green around the same time.

I have both monti's (Superman and Rainbow)... and they are definitely not the same coral. Of course, you may have gotten some type of "mimic" Superman monti, which would explain color change.

i have heard lack of iodine or potassium (blues? maybe) can influence reds? most SPS with some deficincy seem to turn green (most common would be yellows and blues) if you do a search i reckon you can find something giving you the correct answer, zeo supps might be the way to go.

Mine also turned green in the last couple of months. The tank has only been up about two months. Strange....

I've had pokerstar and a orange polyp/orange base monti both turn on me. They both look like rainbow monti now. I have about 4 other encrusting montiporas that have not changed at all. They have both been under two different sets of lighting (t5s then MH).

my superman in high light and low light doesnt change colors (just less poylps or more)

my reverse superman and rainbow will do that

lol this is true!

But it would be nice to know why they turned green.
I'm working on a theory I have.....too much light!

I have raised my lighting several inches higher and cut my lighting by a third. I'll take it through this month and see what happens.

I've had stagnant growth from most of my corals lately.....maybe this is the reason.

I dont think light is the reason for mine turning because both of mine have turned and one is at the bottom of my tank and the other is at the top directly under a 400w.

But keep me updated on what happens with yours and less light. I am curious to see if it makes a difference.

i had 7 yes 7 superman colony under different lighting conditons and there was no difference in the polop colour more so just the base, i posted reults on here before. they were all from the one soccor ball sized colony which i fraged into 4"+ pieces.
