Supplementing LED...

In August I removed 2 of my 10 Sunbrite bulbs & added 2 80 watt t5s to my system. One is a Geisemann Pure Actinic and the other a KZ Fiji purple. The actinic for the UV, and the Fiji Purple to add colors in the orange to red spectrum. I have always liked the LEDs but for my SPS there were some that still had good color but just seemed washed out. I was just looking to add the red/orange spectrum not only for my viewing pleasure, but was curious if the missing spectrum may have been contributing to my recession issuse at the time. Since then growth has improved ( it wasn't too bad to start with)
The t5's made an immediate improvement in visual perception and over time the corals have improved even more in permanent color shift, both LPS and SPS.

I have ATI Powermodule 4x80 fixture supplementing my 3 A360W's.
Blue+, Purple+, Coral+, and Atinic. Have it on for 5 hours 4-9pm. The Blues on the LEDs are unmatched and looks so much sharper. The T5"s adds more color but it gives much of a softer look. But the mixing of the 2, provides the best of both worlds. With good shimmer and the saturation the T5"s provide.

Just buy a full spectrum led. You don't have to supplement it.

I have hydra 52, but still thinking of supplementing with t5... Even with the white @ 50% and blues @ 90%... I like it more on the blue side.... Any recommendation for retrofit kit...

I bought the Mitras, full spectrum+ but a bit pricy, they do the job intended, so no supplements, I did wish I had a 1/2w or less blue single light for moon light on one of them, If I tell it to moon light at 1% the whole room is filled with light.

If you have a full blown sps reef with a lot of acroporas, supplementing helps a lot. If it is a mixed reef you can get away without it. I use the ai hydra 52s but still run 400watt radiums for a few hours per night. So far, the sps hold color and growth. To be honest, the radiums are still my preferred lighting option. The LEDs are nice but look too sterile to me. I already lowered my electric bill by $60 last month.

I run 2 vega blues, with 2 36" t5s. Only added the t5s a few weeks ago so to early to give an opinion. Color and growth were not an issue as much as the shadowing from the LEDs, which is why I added the t5s.

LEDs + t5s

Two 39w t5's to supplement my two kessil a350's. I run them about 6hrs a day with the kessils running 9hrs so far. Since adding the t5's about a month ago, there's definitely a difference in colors! all colors actually! but most noticeably in reds! yellows! and oranges. Some colors have lightened up some but it could have been that I added kalkwasser, gfo and switched salts about the same time as adding the t5's.

What type of bulb are you using..

What type of bulb are you using? How are you running the t5 front and back led in middle?

I ran the radions for a while and supplemented with a 54 watt at blue plus and a purple plus. Most led fixtures lack on the 590 spectrum. Red coral need 590 to color up. I noticed huge improvement over the led alone.

I'm running one coral+ and one blue+. Tried two blue+ but didn't like the look. Truth be told I don't enjoy the look of T5's at all, and turn them off if I plan to view the tank or have friends/family over as everyone that sees the tank agrees it looks 10x better with just the kessils.

I'm running a blue+ in front and a coral+ in back. Running t5s for 2 hours, will eventually stop at 4 hours.
