Supplements in auto top off water?

I just added an auto top off system, would it be a good idea to add any supplements to the RO container I use for the top off, like kalwasser mix or something? My 50 gal. seems to go through about 1/2 gal. of RO per day.

You can use kalkwasser. It works well. Do you have a Ca/Alk dosing regime already?

No, not really. I just test once a week and add supplements as necessary. I have only had calc. drop below 400 once.

How is your pH ?

If you use limewater (kalk) in an auto top off you must make sure you do not add too much at a time. Limewater is better dripped.

If your alk and calcium are stable and your pH is good, I would not add anything to the auto top off container.

Same as calc., I check it once a week. Usually good but I have had to supplement before too.

I'm under the assumption that his new auto-top off drips in as he evaporates water.

It is a JBJ ATO system. a little float sensor turns on when it hits its bottom point and turns back off when it reaches its top point. Seems to keep the level in the sump to within 1/2" at all times. Not the best ATO, but seems to work great so far. That alarm is a bit annoying though.

ooOOoohh. Then you might be better off with what billybeau suggested. Sorry, my fault for misunderstanding. I would just let it top off with regular water, and then decide on a Ca/Alk regime. it seems like what you are currently doing works for you, so I would stick with it.

I don't have an auto top off, gotta do it the old fashion way but I do stick my calcium or alk supplements directly to that jug of top off water and use it througout the week. But only when my tank needs a parameter correction. My alk is running 8 right now and I really would like it higher so I have some ALK supplements in the top off jug.

I was under the assumtion that you could turn off the alarm now. I was about to order one this week.

You can turn off the alarm on the new JBJ systems I got one about two months ago and it came with the alarm turned off. If yours doesn't come with it off you just take the back off (4 little screws) and there is a toggle to turn it off. So far I am pleased with the system.
