Survey: Coraline on back glass????

As I am planning my new 225G tank with starfire glass and viewing on the front and sides, I am wondering how to handle the back glass. Some prefer to let the coraline grow and cover the back glass, while others are looking for the deeeeeeeep look and want a clean back surface. What are your preferrences... (and why)

1) keep LR away from back to be able to clean the surface... remove all coraline.

2) keep the back free of LR, but let the coraline cover the back surface.

3) stack the rock against the back wall for support and coverage. What you can't see won't hurt you....

Which option (or another) do you prefer and would set up in your "dream tank".

Thanks for your thoughts,

Geoff

I prefer the rock wall look myself, I know a lot of people dont agree with the rock wall look but it's my preference. I think it all boils down to your own personal preference. It's YOUR tank do what YOU want with it, who cares what everyone else thinks :)

Rock stacked against the back wall makes it hard to keep waste from building up behind the rock. Water movement is also better when rock is away from all the walls. I think you will find that letting the coraline grow on the back wall does not take away from the "look" of the tank, in my opinion.

The look of the "rock" wall does look good but it might have draw backs.

I never let the coralline grow on the back wall. I think your corals and the things you want to be seen, stand out more when it is clean.

Im doing my darndest to keep the back wall clean in my tank. The back wall is a deep blue colour to give a feeling of depth and my rock doesnt touch the walls for the reasons suggested in earlier posts. If the back wal was clear then i would let the coralline algae build up though. It sjust looks odd to my eyes if the back is blue and has pink splotches on!

I think a clean back wall and sides looks much better than the pink coralline build up. If I get lazy and let it build up for a while then clean it, I find myself thinking, wow that looks a lot better than before.
I think anything that draws your attention to the glass or other non natural items in the tank is a negative to the overall look of the tank.

Option 1

Keeping rock away from the back wall (and all sides for that matter) gives you better flow and less places for detritus to accumulate.

The coralline algae scraping is a personal preference thing but I always like the way scraped tanks look. You are essentially creating a black backdrop for your corals much like a photographer does. Remember that coralline algae also uses substantial calcium, alkalinity, etc.. just like your corals.

but makes it a lot hard to stack rockwork up high if its not leaning on something. AND that space away from the way is taking up room in Front of the rockwork... dont get me wrong i too lke a clean back... but im just sayin.

Thanks all for your great comments! These are the types of ideas was hoping to get. Just goes to show that everyone has preference and there are no wrong ways to do things.

Please keep your opinions coming.
