SWAP 07 POSTER for print

Hi everyone,

Just found that there is a reef keepers club close to me. Yippee!! Im from Beckley, WV area. Glad to see you are here. I hate for my first post to be a downer , but Chemical Valley? Do you guys really want those 2 words associated with reef keeping? I know you all probably love where you live, but rethink this. It is probably understood by ones in the area, but from an outsiders viewpoint? Which do you like?

Industrial, Chemical manufacturing and toxic reef supporters

or

Pristine, Natural Tahitian blue water reef keeping society

I think you get the point. Anyway, Im looking forward to meeting everyone, even if I dislike the name. :)

Welcome Rod,

How did you find out about us just a search or did you see a flyer?

BTW:
You will come to learn that the CVRC has less to do with our name and more to do with our actions as it should be, in fact no one has ever mentioned our name having any negative context until now. We differ from other clubs in that we actively teach new hobbyists and share both information and healthy coral frags amongst ourselves and newcomers to our swaps. Our swaps are part coral frag sale and part school in which anyone with previous reef keeping experience can take the stand and demonstrate a technique that he/she has used successfully in there tanks.

The club has been responsible for saving countless thousands of coral from being taken from the wild reefs, we fight to teach others what coral they should and should not keep. We also manage to save animals and help major institutions with problems and frag donations. In short we are a family of individuals who have come along way and have become well known in the reef keeping community.

Im sure you will fit in quite well and we welcome you to our little band of reef lunatics.

Actually phljess a member here found me! He sent me a pm noticing I lived in WV. I found reefcentral by just searching reef forums on google and joined as a premium member a few weeks ago. Didnt even notice the Reef Club Forum section of reefcentral until phljess clued me in.

Ill bring some pics to the swap of tanks I have had in the past. My enthusiasm for the hobby has been renewed recently, not to mention my cash flow :) quite a bit more knowledge and support now, than when I used to do it with internet not quite discovered yet. (I used to log onto my compuserve and GEnie accounts to talk fish with my TRS-80 computer)

All I can say is, I know you have to have patience in this hobby, but the tank I am doing now is going to rock!

Me and Barry from JoMars go way back too!!! Havent talked to him in a long time, I used to supply almost all of the pet stores in WV with salt water fish and corals. That was my business, I transhipped from collectors from all over the world. Ah!! those were the bad old days. :)

More reef friendly now....

Can't wait to talk to everyone. RC

Did you ever raise clowns by any chance?

Be sure to drop by and see Barry while your in town. We are in the process of setting up some new tanks down there this week, should be done by weekend but you can get a view of the 125 reef tank I set up for display. Of course my best tank is at the Funeral home.

Nope, But I read the thread of the month in its entirety and curious about trying at some point. I have a mated pair of Tomato Clowns right now. I completely redid the rock structure and redesigned the system the last 3 weeks, so I upset their life a bit. But they were producing eggs like every 2 weeks. I did nothing to try and save them though. I am sure they will go right back at it.

Ya, I plan on stopping in and saying hi. I will try to be at funeral home too.
