swimming upside down

I have a 35-g high tank. I've had 4 h.erectus for over a year, and all learned to eat frozen mysis very well.

I had 2 erectus in my classroom that gave birth, and my students raised 3 from fry. I put the 3 in the tank with the other 4. All has been well for many months.

Two of the raised ones, at the age of 11 months, mated ( I know, could be bad, didn't expect it so fast). We're raising those babies at school. They had 3 sets of fry and then stopped.

Related or not, this happens next. I'm not sure of any mating or not in the following, or just what I am interpreting.

Another male, from the first set of 4, seemed to be wanting to mate with the friendly female. The male that got pregnant, 3 times in 6 weeks, isn't anymore. This other male started swimming upside down for a couple days but could still reach his hitching posts and sit upright. Then his belly got swollen BIG, I thought he was pregnant but with difficulties, and floated to the top of the water. His belly was keeping him afloat for a couple of weeks until he died.

NOW, the little boy that had the original 3 batches of fry is doing the same thing! He's swimming upside down to his post (the female is all over him) and then sits fine, but I KNOW he's getting ready to go threw what the last male went through and I'm sick about it.

My students raised him from a baby, and he's had 3 batches of fry, and now he's having these symptoms.

I'm under the impression that gas bubble disease is the more skin-like disease, but I'm researching more asap! I'm just hoping that while I research (and panic), that someone says "this is what's wrong, and this is what you need to do!"

Thanks. I'll research and read all I can, but hoping someone knows something that could help faster.

Thanks,
Laine

OK, re-reading this, it sounds awful. Here it is differently:

Horse1(fem) and Horse2 (male) mate 3 times fine and have fry. These 2 are special to me and my students because we raised them from fry.

They stopped mating.

Two weeks later, Horse 3(male) floats to top with huge swollen belly (he looked like he had been trying to mate with horse1 but no clue if that happened).

After almost 3 weeks, horse 3 dies.

Horse 2 now has symptoms of horse 3. For the last 6 hours, he swims upside down until he hitches.

HELP :(

Thanks for any help.

Thank you. I read your post and then searched it and found it on seahorse.org. I'll give it a shot. I absolutely love this little guy!

HOLY CRAP I DID iT!!

We watched a youtube video and read the thing on seahorse org and got up enough couarge! Hubby held a flashlight and I did it with a bobby pin! Lots of bubbles came right out!

My baby is swimming around at the bottom and hitching like a champ!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

Today he is swimming some, but having a hard time hitching right. He's orange normally, but his little tail is whitish with a tiny bit of skin sloughing off. I hope I didn't injure him :(
