Moving from a 55 gallon tank to a 75.

1.)will it start another cycle?
2.) can I use old sand
3.)can rock be above water in the air for a min or two?

I have 75 lbs rock in my 55 gallon at the moment wasn't planning on buying more if I can just move it all over with most the water if that helps

I switched from a 55 to a 125 two months ago. If you use most of your water, rock, and sand you should be fine. Youll only be adding 25 gallons of new saltwater so it would be just like a big water change. The rock can be out of water for a minute or two but i wouldnt leave it out for an extended period of time( hours) because it will dry out killing the essential bacteria living on it. If your going to use your old sand, drain the tank and take all your sand and put it in the new tank before you add water, then when you add the water, place a bowl on your sandbed and pour the water into the bowl as you add it so it just trickles over the sides of the bowl to help prevent the sand from stirring. As long as you dont create a huge sandstorm you shouldnt get a cycle

You could also take the old sand put it in a bucket, take some old tank water and use it to rinse and clean the old sand before you put it in the new tank. I see no point in putting sand filled with detritus into a new tank. I have changed tanks twice and had no problems with any sort of cycle. It should not be much different to the inhabitants then a water change. Dont worry about the live rock, it can stay out of water for way more then a couple minutes without any trouble. So take you time, clean out the sand as best you can and it should all work out fine.
