Switching from Lps and softies to SPS

Assume that lighting, flow and water param are stable(no nitrate, alk and cal good) and suitable.

What are some common mistakes and overlooked items that you may get away with in a lps/softie tank but not sps.

What are the common reasons for failure.
most important things to focus on??

thanks

I think one of the biggest mistakes is assuming the lighting and flow and water params that are stable enough for LPS/Softies will work for SPS.

If you have kept freshwater fish before, you know they are a lot more forgiving than saltwater fish.

I think that is kind of the same analogy between going from LPS/Softies to SPS.

Again as stated before, flow and water parameters. I think a lot of people assume that you can have the same parameters for softies and LPS for SPS. Not so. Need to tremendously bump up flow and keep your water parameters stable and pristine.

Also, if you already have a lot of softies in your tank, you may want to get rid of them if you are thinking of going predominantly sps. Sps do better without softies.

im sorry i ment to assume that water param and flow are prime for an sps tank, no for a lps tank. So aside from pristine water conditions and great skimming and high random flow what are the common errors.....

Specifically you need to maintain your Ca and Alk at reasonably stable levels... something you may not have worried about with the LPS and softies.
