I being repairing my led fixture for many years now. about every 2-3 month 1 or 2 leds with burn out between my 3 fixtures. they are epistar 3w led diodes.
I was wondering if it will work to try to replace them with cree led diodes since they are better and last longer. you know, solder one led at the time when they burn out! Have any one done this?

what im trying to achieve here is to maybe get some more durably diodes so they can last longer. Just so i wont have to take my fixtures apart as much. any one know if there is maybe different quality between one epistar diode vrs other?

If you are handy with a soldering iron you can check out how the Cree solderless LEDs are laid out and it is possible to make them work . You do need to be somewhat skilled with a soldering iron to do it though . The CREE solderless LEDS can be soldered and also have notches to secure to the board but you may have to drill two small holes to secure the LED to the board . These would be the ones to use to make it easier , if you look at them they still have solder pads on top that can be used to solder a wire to solder points on the board .You can still use optics you have too if needed . Search Google for Cree solderless LEDS and you can see where to purchase and choose your colors .Hope this helps because I have done this and it does indeed work .
