Switching tanks and wondering if you can reuse sand in freshwater?

I'm moving my saltwater fish and some sand and the rocks to another tank but won't use all of the sand. I'm wondering if I can keep the leftover sand in the same tank and make it a freshwater tank? Thanks.

May have pH issues (too much buffering) Using aragonite sand in a planted tank is frowned upon in freshwater circles.
Might be less of an issue if you aren't planting but I'm not sure. Best to ask on a freshwater forum

If you plan to keep cichlids, they will benefit from the aragonite. I've never tried it in my freshwater tanks though the lady I got one of my tanks from had a 27 year old catfish and some silver dollars and blood parrots in their teens over crushed coral mixed with aragonite sand.

But sand all the way around, you can't pay me enough to do gravel again, ever.

In wouldn't chance it. You will have a ton of organics in the sand and even washing a ton would likely leave some.

Just get new sand for the new tank!
