Switching tanks???

I recieved a suprise... my girlfriend got us a 75 Gal corner-flow tank. I am excited about setting it up but taking it slow.

I have a 55 gal that I reciently moved that is going through its cycle with no critters in it yet. so it is ready to add fish but now I need to switch tanks and I am concerned with how I can move my live sand from one to the other w/out disturbing things and having to wait another few months before adding some fish.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

if its still cycling, then it is not ready for fish. So since you say its still cycling, i would suggest moving everything now. You wont cause anything that will last more than like a week longer or anything, and it definitely wont take months.

well it has been cycling for 4 months so it really is past that point I just described that way because I have no fish in it.

but I guess my question better stated is should I just scoop thesand into the other before I put any water in just have a little water in the bottom to avoid disturbing the sand too much? what do you all think is my best bet?

I would set up the new tank in it's place. I would move water from the old tank to the new tank until there was enough water in both to cover the your live rock. I'd then move the live rock followed by most of the water from the old tank. Then I'd move the sand, adding a bit more of the same size and composition as the sand you're mixing with. I'd also add about 50% more rock. I'd go with base rock, as it's a lot cheaper, and will work just as well.

You seem like a really patient hobbiest. That will help a bunch.
