I posted this on the newbie forum, but I believe there are just too many people posting there, and not enough specialized attention, so here we go:
Hello! Thanks for your interest in my post to start with!
Here's a little background info. I have a 40g tank with 80+# live rock and 70+# live sand. I let everything cycle for a month with just a biological filter (bioballs) and the heater. Next, I added the lights (260W PC with Actinic and Lunar lights), and let everything start growing for 2 weeks. Once ammonia and nitrite hit 0 for 2 weeks straight, I moved everything into my new tank. I added 3 damsels, 2 zebra hermits, 1 XL common hermit, 10 XS blue-legged hermits, 4 Astrea snails, 2 Turbo snails, a Flame Scallop, and an Arrow Crab (not all at once of course...I made sure there were no spikes in between additions...and made sure there was plenty for the clean-up crew to eat!)
Here's my question. My flame scallop and my arrow crab seem to have created some sort of symbiotic relationship...and I'm curious. They met at the back of the aquarium...and haven't parted each other's side in about a week now. In fact, the other night, I witnessed the arrow crab actually feeding the scallop. It was picking food off of the live rock, breaking it into little pieces, feeding it to itself, and then feeding it to the scallop by waving it near its filters. Does anyone have any info on this? It seems harmless, I'm just more interested in why this would occur.
Thanks...and if you have any suggestions on my setup, I'm all ears!
Nikki
