Synergy Overflow

After having my tank and overflow (http://synergyreef.com/product/16-synergy-reef-overflow/) for almost a year, it is finally time I get this setup. This is my first saltwater tank, it has been a little overwhelming having no plumbing experience whatsoever but I am ready to buy the supplies.

Just have a few questions. If anyone can help me out, that would be greatly appreciated. They both have to deal with bulkheads...

1.Do I need to use any kind of adhesive or glue on the rubber gaskets that are both inside the overflow and outside the overflow box (connecting the tank to overflow box)? Or does just hand tightening these good enough to avoid any kind of leaks?

2. Pretty much the same question on the rear overflow box bulkheads. Do I need any adhesive/glue connecting the rubber gasket to the box itself? Or is hand tightening the nut good enough?

Thanks and sorry for the noob question, I couldn't seem to find my answer when trying to search. Just want to make sure I do this right the first time.

Sorry in re-checking this, it looks like the rubber gasket for the 3 down pipes actually goes inside the overflow box, not the outside of the box on the diagram.

No to any adhesives! You will probably want to seal the threads though. Use a paste type instead of the white thread tape, trust me on this one, people recommend paste for a reason!
Hand tight is the way to go but you need to be careful that you don't crack anything. You'll definitely want to do a wet test when you think you are done.
Good luck!

Got it, thanks! Definitely testing in the garage first for a few days.

No. You do not put anything on the gasket, OR the external (mounting) threads of a bulkhead. Such materials will interfere with the sealing of the gasket, and/or will allow over tightening of the bulkhead nut.

If the bulkheads have internal threads, you use a non-hardening thread sealant to seal the PVC fitting threads.

Hand tight should be plenty. More than that will cause the seals to squish out. This applies to all bulkheads, not just for this particular overflow...

BTW: Thank you for not posting this in the Silent and Failsafe Overflow System thread. :)
