It only has a small selection for saltwater unless they've expanded in the last year or so. Great shop and nice guys but its more for the freshwater scene

Chris is a great guy, but it's mostly a freshwater shop. He will, however, order just about anything you want, freshwater or saltwater. Last time I was there, he really didn't have any saltwater fish and there wasn't a ton of LR...I wasn't interested in buying any, so I didn't look at the pieces he had or ask about prices.

As another option to ABC Reefs, Fairmount, or Syracuse Aquariums, there's Petland in Cicero. It does have a decent saltwater selection for fish and LR, but their fish aren't always the healthiest. I can't remember their LR prices, but they usually have a larger selection to choose from than Syracuse Aquariums.

There used to be a place in auburn too, if you're sold on checking out alternatives. I bought a fish from them way back, it did well. Definitely not a Reef shop. Primarily FW.

Tropical fish emporium. I seriously don't know how the building is still standing.

The place in Jamesville was mostly freshwater last I was there. Chris is fantastic there!

If you are on a budget and want nice rock order dry rock from BRS (bulkreefsupply.com)

Yes, great shop, family business. Slim on the marine, but great on the tropical. They carry Eheim filters and parts, Marineland, oceanic aquariums. They have a lot of great used tanks and things. You go in there a few times and they remember your name (just like ABC!). I like that too!

Fairmount is expanding, but they've let the place go, I was just in there to see what they have done. I don't think I'll return anytime soon.

ABC usually has a tank full of LR, sometimes two. There is the man made rock (cool) for$ 8-9/lb, sometimes they have marco rock cheap, $5-6/lb and good baserock for $2/lb. Before I knew of ABC, I ordered live rock from florida, and had to tank cure at great expense to me. It ended up great, but costing near 8-9/lb! LOL

Syracuse Aquarium is a joke for salt water and their live rock is the worst I've seen. That being said, I do buy tanks and equipment there because their prices aren't bad and its a family business.

BOTTOM LINE:
You get what you pay for and you're in a hobby thats not cheap, suck it up and get some nice rock so you don't regret it down the road.

ABC has the only live rock I would put in my tanks (In Syracuse anyways)

I should have continued... My first tank I bought and stocked with LR the same week I found out about ABC! I was in heaven!

My new set up is stocked with ABC Reef LR and baserock. I am very happy!
