t-5's and clams

That is only 3.927 watts a gallon. I would push it up towards 5-6 watts a gallon for good growth. You can maintain at 3.9 but not get any kinda good growth.

I run pc's on my 55 at 6.99 watts a gallon. Clams doing great with good growth.

just my 2 cents.

Watts per gallon is not a good measure for T-5's because watts simply measure how much power they consume. With T-5's the reflector is what makes them so effective. I'm running 4*39w T-5's with Tek reflectors and I'm keeping Hippo, Squamosa, Derasa, and Crocea with a couple Maxima's planned all about 24 inches below the bulbs. I plan to move the crocea up once I figure out where I want to place it.

Here's a couple pics...

Exotic wonders, the sooner you lose that school of thought the better. For instance there are a lot of people that keep SPS on VHO, when everyone and their grandmother says it cannot be done.

I think it all comes down to water quality. If you water is crystal clear it allows the light penetrate deeper and more intense. Im running 4x 54w T5s on my 55g and everything is doing really well.
