T-8 Bulb in T-10 Fixture

I understand this will work, but the T-8 bulb just flickers. I tried a new starter and a different bulb. This is just one of those inexpensive hoods with one bulb you see in department stores.

Not always, sometimes its the lamp and sometimes its the ballast.

That fixture uses a magnetic pre heat ballast. These ballasts are not compatible with energy saving T8 17, 25, 32 watt lamps. They will overdrive T8 lamps but the low current spec lamp becomes unstable on a magnetic ballast.
