T. Crocea gaping?

Hello,

Thanks to RC, I got a positive ID on a clam I bought last week (the LFS called it Crocea Maxima).

I have two other clams in the tank that look very healthy and growing.

Gaping is when the clam's mouth is almost or completely wide open, correct? If that's the case, the crocea is gaping!

I read that this is okay for certain species of clams. Not sure if T. Crocea qualifies.

BTW, what does the T stand for?

Thanks,

James

Hi James
I think it is better if you'll post a picture, you see a healthy clam can show nice mantle extension and will be wide open, this is not gapping though.
Gapping is when the clam is open, but the mantle retreats into the shell, this is actually the last stage of gapping.
It'll be better if u can post a pic, as it might be that your clam is just perfect.
T stands for Tridacna, the latin name.

THAT IS A HAPPY CLAM!

THAT IS A HAPPY CLAM!

Your Clam looks great! Fully expanded with his syphon wide open.

Gaping is when the actual mantel is inside of the shell and receding.

Nothin' to worry about.
