What is the most effective height for the T5 bulbs to be from the water. Any know if any studies done on this or have any advice?

depends on # of bulbs, if using standard ballast or overdriven ones, individual reflectors of no, depth of tank, etc.......
for mine, i had an EXTREMELY techinical formula for figuring out that i was gonna mount my (4) bulbs 4" from the top of the tank......i was using 4" fans beside them LOL

but seriously, i think 3-4" is a good height.....enough to minimize splashing, keep temps down & leave room for access. i have seen people mount them almost on the water surface & that just makes me nervous for water hitting the bulb....not to mention the amout of salt creep that collects on the bulbs when that close

These will just be a supplement to 1 400W Lumen Bright (havn't decided on bulb but will probably go with a 12 or 14k).
