T5 Lighting May Be For You

well, its been a while since i chimed in here as well. allof my corals have been thriving under my t5 ho setup. and new additions as of last night, pocillapora, blue hammer, hairy shroom, and some green shrooms to tyr out again..


last time my lights melted the green stripes shrooms. now i have the flourecsent green shrooms. we will see what they think of the t5, but all this came out of a 180 G lit by 3x400w of mh, with vho for supplement...

I've ordered a 5x2x2 tank set up and I'm getting D-Deltec Megatwin 4ft x 2 Lighting. How good do you think that will be?

OK guys, hopefully this hasn't been asked too many times here, but what do you think about the 6x54watt T5s on Ebay for $249.00 including bulbs? I'd be putting it on a 55AGA (18" deep). I know all about Tek, but just can't afford them now. I mainly have softies, a couple of LPS and 2 Monti Cap frags. I don't really plan on getting seriously into SPS.

What reflectors do they have? That will make a difference.

Love to see it. I really like Euphyllia. I have a couple of Torches, Frogspawns and a Green Hammer. Never seen a blue one.

Grab a 4 lamp Tek hood. It will use less power, create less heat and provide as much or more light than the E-bay fixture. Reefgeek.com has been giving 2 GE days away with the 4 lamp fixture but I don't know if they still are. I'd probably go with 2 blueplus and 1 GE and 1 Aquablue so you would still have to buy at least three lamps but you are getting the quality ones instead of the elcheapos most of the E-bay sellers include.

Yes. You need to have ~ a 50/50 mix blue/white. Ditch the Actinics and go with a 50/50 mix of blue+/Aquablue. With 6 bulbs you can toss a GE day in the mix to replace one Aquablue if you like.

been so busy at my job, which i actually quit on friday after my shift, so i can get into the corporate world, and not retail. empty pronises froma main manager that didnt give crap about anyone but himself... thats a long story. but about the hammer..



its great, but not blue...


its kinda pale now, but its the purply color ones... the main lights are on now, and its out, but it must have been the 20k blue mh on that side of the tank that made it blue.


oh well, its cool none the less and 10 bucks for a 4 headed hammer is a good deal, i will have to goback and get some frogspawn from him, and maybe more sps.. and the green shrooms i got are happy in the t5 light as well. maybe the green striped ones are just that picky, dunno...

Maybe the color will come back on the hammer once it acclimates to the lighting. My blue shrooms are more purple under the halides. I like the bright blue color they had under the T5 a lot better. I am switching over to 250 watt 14K lamps as we speak AND the stuff for my new system just showed up. I am going to have to get mountain climbing equipment to move around the house.

i think the 14k bulbs are the way to go for MH.. the guy had 10k on the 2 400watters and the 3rd 400 watter was a 20k.. and that was too dark, and the 10k too bright.

although the sps didnt seem to mind one bit....crazy growth on the sps in his tank

Hi Everyone, been busy.

I love the shots new2u & sjm817, I want a RBTA but just have no room for it at the moment. I have been fragging a lot of stuff lately and almost moved to a custom 91g Acrylic this month. I am waiting a little bit longer, but need to make a move within the next 5 months or so.

That looks good drk70, I think the color is nice. I just don't like the T5 sun bulbs, they are way to yellow, but the Aquablue 11k's are my favorite. I will not use an Actinic on a 4 bulb again, but maybe one in the 6 bulb setups. When I make the move to the 91g, I will be geting a 6 bulb setup since the tank will be 20" deep from front to back and will use 2 Aquablue 11k's on the outside with 1 Aquablue 11k in the center as well as 2 Blue Plus and 1 Actinic.

525 watts of 6 foot long T5's. And you guys didn't think they existed Wait til I post a pic of just the 2 actinics. These things look way better than ATI's. Not bad for "crappy" Chinese lamps.

This is just temporary while I rework the hlides I plan on taking some time to do this right and didn't want to wrangle the oak canopy back over the tank to run my 80 watt lamps.

The way these things pop the colors I might be going back to T5 or 6 for the new tank unless the 14K 250's look way better than the 10k's. I will post a pic of the actinics tonight after the mains go out. Very impressive.

You should hook them all up up outside one night and freak out the neighbors. They'll think aliens have landed.

This halloween I am going to hook up some actinics out front to make the kiddies glow in the dark. Not as good as black lights but this is Montana, they think a black light is a something a NAACP member uses to illuminate their home.

When I took the full tanks shots, I took a few more while I was at it. My camera is terrible for macros and I'm not a great photographer either. Its intimidating posting here with such awesome tanks and photography skills that some here have.

Without flash was too dark. With flash looks better, but more yellow....I'll have to work on this..
